Chickens in Flight: The Surprising Tale of Sky

My flock of chickens gets the royal treatment with their weekly “field trips” to rule over my entire backyard. They explore every nook, cranny, and, of course, they make my garden beds their personal spa for dust baths.

One sunny day last summer, I released them as usual, but when dusk settled in, I had a suspicion to check to make sure they had made it back to their coop. Counting my hens, I noticed a missing member. Cue the backyard chicken hunt! We scoured everywhere, worried she'd escaped the yard. We could not find her and decided to give up the hunt until morning.

Then, a lightbulb moment struck my husband and I—we dared to look up, and voila! There she was, our daredevil chicken, chilling high up in a tree. I was flabbergasted! I never knew chickens had such avian aspirations. How did she get so high? She must have flown! So, we fittingly dubbed her Sky.

Sky's treetop escapade taught us a valuable lesson: never underestimate anyone, not even a chicken! It's a fun example that when we set our minds to it, we can achieve the most unexpected feats—just like our feathery daredevil, Sky.
